Resumen

The air we breathe is polluted with physical and chemical components as a consequence of the car fleet, a problem that seriously impairs the quality of life of urban residents. The objective is to demonstrate the impact of the car fleet on air pollution and the health of the urban population. The present literature review focused on the topic of air pollution for the search of scientific information, both in its heuristic and hermeneutic phase, collecting information from scientific journals, based on online data collection techniques. Among the air pollutants emitted by motor vehicles, particles with a calibre less than or equal to 10 microns are identified as PM-10 and particles with a calibre less than or equal to 2.5 microns are identified as PM 2.5. The reduction of 50 ppm in the sulphur content of fuel and the introduction of cleaner fuels such as compressed natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas has led to a significant reduction in the values of carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide, while remaining below the maximum permissible limits. It is concluded that about 90% of air pollution is due to motor vehicles.
