Resumen

The purpose of the research was to identify the personal characteristics and academic performance of students from the Faculty of Nursing at the National University of Huancavelica during the 2018–2019 period. The study corresponds to a quantitative, non-experimental investigation of descriptive, exploratory, and explanatory level, with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 309 students from various academic cycles within the faculty, with a sample of 172 students. Data were obtained through a survey technique, using a questionnaire administered during the academic counseling hours scheduled in the curriculum. The application of the instrument lasted approximately 30 minutes, after obtaining informed consent from each participant. For statistical analysis, Excel and IBM SPSS version 25 were used, applying descriptive statistics with a 95% confidence level. The results indicated that the majority of students are young women (75.6% female; 69.2% aged between 18 and 22), with a normal nutritional status (68.6%) and single marital status (94.2%). Most have no children (91.9%), do not work (93%), and are not heads of household (97.7%). A total of 89.5% come from public educational institutions, and 61.6% dedicate approximately two hours a day to studying outside the classroom. Furthermore, the majority reported not consuming drugs or alcohol, and their academic performance mostly ranged between 12 and 14 points (66.3%). It is concluded that the majority are young, single women with no significant family or work responsibilities. They show an adequate nutritional status, low consumption of harmful substances, and mostly come from public schools. Additionally, they dedicate a considerable amount of time to studying, reflecting a satisfactory average academic performance.
